Hiram Women’s Volleyball Rolls Past Kenyon, 3-0

HIRAM, Ohio - October 19, 2019 Hiram women's volleyball swept the Kenyon College Ladies, 3-0, on Saturday at Price Gymnasium to pick up their first conference victory of the season.

After the Ladies took a 7-4 lead in the opening set, scoring five straight down 2-0, the Terriers came up with a run of their own to take the lead. Following a Kenyon attack error, Hiram notched four-straight kills on four-straight Mackenzie Brannon serves to take a 9-7 lead.

The two sides again traded leads, before Kenyon and Hiram stood tied at 13, midway through the opening set. Hiram then took advantage of another attack error, scoring six-straight open a 19-13 lead.

Kenyon twice cut the Terriers lead to two, 20-18 and 22-20, but each time Kiara Franks came up with a kill to slow the Ladies run and the Terriers took the opening set, 25-20.

Following a back-and-forth straight to the second set, Hiram notched three-straight points on a service error and two Jaya Martin service aces to take a 10-7 lead. The Terriers added to their lead a few points later, forcing a Kenyon timeout on Mackenzie Brannon's ace to take a 14-10 lead.

However, Hiram didn't let the timeout slow them down, increasing their lead to six over the next few points. Lauren Limbach's kill brought Kenyon back to within five, 22-17, but Hiram scored the next three to take the second set, 25-17.

And in the third set, Hiram raced out to an early lead. Down 3-2, the Terriers went on a 6-0 run to take an 8-3 lead, but the Ladies responded with a run of their own to tie the set at 10-10.

Hiram though, regrouped after a timeout and scored another five-straight to take a lead they'd never relinquish. The Ladies would cut the deficit to three, but Hiram again surged ahead with a 6-0 run, taking a 22-13 lead before finishing off the match with a kill by Melina Lee.

With the win, Hiram moves to 13-11 (1-4 NCAC) on the year, while Kenyon drops to 5-16 (2-3 NCAC).

Lee led the Terriers with a career-high 15 kills, while Emily Chrustic tallied a game-high 23 assists. Martin and Brannon each led the Terriers with four service aces, while Brannon also led the Terriers with 20 digs.

The Terriers will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 23 when they travel to Meadville, Pa. to take on Allegheny College Gators at the David V. Wise Center at 7:00 p.m.
