HIRAM, Ohio – The Hiram College men's swim team defeated the Bethany Bison for their first win of the season on Saturday afternoon (90-64). The women's team fell short by a final score of 43-68.
The men's team now stands at 1-6, 0-2 NCAC, while the women hold an 0-8, 0-2 NCAC record.
Alex Laird and Michael Barber and Reeve Bowling all won two events for the Terriers. Laird won the 100-meter freestyle with a 28.82 time and the 100-meter freestyle with a 1:05.05 time. Barber was the top swimmer in the 800-meter freestyle and the 400-meter freestyle with 10:27.32 and 5:07.72 times, respectively. Bowling took first in the 100-meter butterfly (1:07.69) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:17.44).
For the women, Jenna Nelson led the way. Nelson won all three of the events that she swam in (200-meter IM, 400-meter freestyle and 100-meter breaststroke). In the 400-meter freestyle, she finished in 5:11.12, marking a new season-high.
Both teams will be on a break until January 21. The men's team will host Washington & Jefferson (Pa.) at 1 p.m. The women's team will also host Washington & Jefferson at 1 p.m. in addition to Franciscan for the second time this season.
