Sept. 1 – The Hiram College women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision against Alfred University on Saturday night.
The Saxons made quick work, connecting on the first goal inside the first five minutes of play.
Despite allowing the early goal, the Terrier defense held Alfred scoreless for the remaining stanza, keeping the deficit at one goal at the half (1-0).
Down by one, the Terriers responded in the second half. Freshman Kaitlyn Harris scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Cortney Wendel, tying the game 1-1.
The two teams traded shots but neither was able to put away the game forcing the match into overtime play.
In the extra frame, only two shots were attempted. The first shot was from Hiram's Jessica Smith that was saved by the Saxons' goalie. The second shot was from Alfred which ended the match, finalizing the 2-1 victory.
Hiram finished the game with seven shots with four on goal.
The Terriers will return home and compete in their home opener on Wednesday, Sept. 5 against Heidelberg. The game is set for a 7:30 p.m. start.
