March 16- NEW CONCORD, Ohio- The Hiram College women's lacrosse team claimed a 9-8 win in overtime against Muskingum, Saturday afternoon.
Junior Alexis Hirsch scored the game-winning goal off a free position shot in the overtime period. The last time the Terriers posted an overtime win was the 13-12 victory over Ohio Northern by former All-NCAC Selection Sierah Ray in the 2017 season.
Hirsch finished the contest with two goals, four groundballs, and two caused turnovers.
Three other Terriers registered a multi-goal game including senior Katelyn Slomovitz who finished with a team-high three goals. Sophomore Gianna Palmieri and junior Tayler Hall added two goals apiece.
Hiram dominated the majority of the game never trailing in the 60 plus minutes of work.
The Terriers jumped out to an initial 3-1 lead with Palmieri, Hall, and Slomovitz each getting to score a goal.
The Muskies responded minutes later with a free position shot to cut the Hiram lead to 3-2.
From there Hirsch would score a goal off an assist from Katy Breland to stretch the lead 4-2.
Drawing closer to halftime Muskingum would knot the score at 4-4 off a pair of goals before the Terriers would use back-to-back goals from Slomovitz and Hall to cement their lead at the break (6-4).
In the first thirty minutes, Hiram tallied 10 shots on goal, 21 groundballs, and nine caused turnovers.
In the second half, the Terriers would score just two additional goals from Slomovitz and Palmieri holding the 8-7 lead.
Muskingum's Carly Spitz would score an unassisted goal inside the two-minute mark to tie the game 8-8.
The Terriers would collect their last clear chance with four seconds remaining in regulation but without enough time to shoot it sent the game into the overtime frame.
Hirsch's overtime game-winner marks her 11th goal of the season.
In net, sophomore Gillian McMaster collected her second career win with eight saves.
Hiram will return to the road on Tuesday, March 19 when they travel to Michigan to take on Adrian College. The matchup is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start.
