Women's Lacrosse Suffers Conference Loss to Wittenberg

April 22 – HIRAM, Ohio – The Hiram College women's lacrosse team suffered a 20-7 defeat at the hands of Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon at Henry Field.

The Terriers tallied the first goal of the game, as Sierah Ray notched her 45th goal of the season on a free-position shot to give Hiram a 1-0 just one minute in.

Wittenberg responded by outscoring the Terriers 11-1 over the next 27 minutes of game time. The lone goal in the stretch for the Terriers came at the 13-minute mark as Katelyn Slomovitz connected off an assist from Ray.

Autumn Osgood posted her first goal of the game off an assist from Alyse Gillentine with 38 seconds to play in the half, but Hiram still trailed 11-3 at the break.

The two sides traded four goals through the first three minutes of the second half. Gillentine tallied her first goal on a free-position shot, before Slomovitz tallied her second marker of the game with 27:13 remaining in regulation.

The Terriers were outscored 7-2 over the final 27 minutes, however, giving the visiting Tigers the 20-7 victory. Both Gillentine and Osgood posted their second goals of the game in the remaining time, with each tally coming off free positions.

Offensively, Slomovitz, Gillentine and Osgood all posted two goals, while Gillentine led the team in points, also adding an assist. Ray finished with two points in the game, posting a goal and an assist.

Despite the loss, Hiram won the draw control battle, 18-11, including eight from Ray. Slomovitz also pitched in with three controls.

Hiram will get back to work on Wednesday, April 26 as they travel to Oberlin College for their final road game of the season. The matchup with the Yeowomen is scheduled for 6 PM.
