MEADVILLE, Pa. – February 19, 2020 – The Hiram College women's basketball team dropped an 80-66 decision to Allegheny College on Wednesday night.
The victory pushed the Gators to 10-14 overall and 6-9 in the North Coast Athletic Conference while the Terriers fell to 7-18 and 4-12 in the NCAC.
In the game, Hiram found themselves holding the initial scoring momentum, opening the game with a layup from sophomore Cici Bright (2-0).
After back-to-back Allegheny baskets, freshman Taylor Valaitis hit a three to regain the lead (5-4).
A minute later, Tashauna Wright used a layup to help Hiram take the lead for the last time (7-6).
The Gators closed the frame with a 12-4 swing to hold an early 18-11 advantage.
From there the Terriers struggled through the remaining of the first half, scoring eight points in the second quarter (35-19).
Hiram held a slight scoring advantage in the third quarter (20-19) helping them cut their deficit down to 13 on a three-pointer from freshman Haley Thompson (46-33).
Despite the Terriers outscoring Allegheny by one (27-26) in the fourth stanza the host still secured an 80-66 victory. The Gators shot 50 percent from the field outrebounding Hiram 51-29 for the game.
Hiram was led by junior Madison Branch with 18 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Thompson finished with 17 points and eight boards, while Wright added 15 points and four assists.
The NCAC Conference Tournament will begin on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The Terriers' opponent and location have yet to be determined.
