Terrier Women's Basketball Opens Season at Lauren Hill Classic

Nov. 11 – CINCINNATI, Ohio – The Hiram College women's basketball team opened the 2017-18 season with a 71-50 defeat at the hands of Mount St. Josephs on Saturday evening.

The game was the final matchup of the day as part of the fourth-annual Lauren Hill tipoff classic at Xavier University's Cintas Center. The day's festivities also included a matchup between the host Musketeers and the University of New Hampshire.

Hiram fell behind by as many as 34 points through the first 30 minutes as the Terriers failed to score in double digits in any of the opening three quarters.

The fourth quarter saw the Hiram offense spring to life, scoring the most points of any quarter by either team, outscoring the Lions by a 26-13 margin. Although able to close the gap, the scoring difference was not enough to overcome the deficit and the Terriers fell to 0-1 on the season.

The Terrier held the advantage in rebounds in the match, while also posting 22 steals. Four different Hiram players notched at least four pilfers, including a game-high six from junior Erica Johnson.

Johnson did it all for Hiram in the game, adding a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with her six steals, six points and two assists.

Senior Allison Vannoy led the Terrier offense with 12 points, while freshman Madison Branch added nine. Junior Bri Burgos added eight points to the cause, while Johnson and freshman Alainna Conroy finished with six, each.

Hiram will be back in action on Wednesday, Nov. 15 as they play host to the Wolverines of Grove City College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
