Mar.4-THOUSAND OAKS, Calif.- The Hiram College softball team suffered a pair of losses in the doubleheader matchup with Cal Lutheran, Monday afternoon.
Hiram fell 5-1 in game one, before dropping game two 16-10 against the Regals.
The Terriers started the afternoon off strong with freshman Giselle Chavez tallying the lone Hiram run in the first inning.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Hager led the way for the Terriers in hits, finishing with three of the six hits. Freshman Leah Valdez notched the lone RBI of the game.
Hiram picked up the pace in the second game with Kaitlyn Hager hitting her fifth career home run to collect an early 1-0 lead.
The Terriers maximized their scoring in the second inning tallying 5 of their 10 runs of the game. Sophomore Giselle Bahena, freshman Kaitlyn Saffel, Hager, freshman Megan Davis, and sophomore Mariah Sheffield each had a run apiece.
In the third inning, a double from junior Isabelle Miranda scored Bahena for her second run of the game.
Hiram kept the scoring momentum going in the third with Miranda and Hager each scoring a run off a single from Davis to stretch the Terrier lead to 9-0.
In the bottom of the third, the host added three runs to the board to cut the Terriers lead to 9-3.
Hiram would add just one last run in the top of the fourth off a single from Sheffield to score Bahena (10-3).
From there the Regals would hold the Terrier runless and total 13 runs in the remaining innings to end the game 16-10.
Offensively, Hager and Bahena each tallied three runs apiece. Davis finished the game with one run, four hits, and four RBIs.
Hiram will return to the field on Tuesday, March 5 as they take on Hope International at 3:00 and 5:00 p.m.
