Men's Basketball Toppled by #21 Wooster

The Hiram College men's basketball team dropped a road decision to The College of Wooster on Sunday afternoon.

The Scots, who came into the game ranked #21 by the D3hoops.com Top-25 poll, controlled the matchup from the outset, hitting 53% of their shots, including 51% from outside.

Wooster was able to score 50+ points in each half thanks in large part to knocking down 18 three-point baskets. Overall, the Terriers found themselves outscored by 30 points from beyond the arc as Wooster hit 18-35 and Hiram, 8-17.

Four different players scored at least 18 for Wooster, who held a 55-40 lead at the halftime break.

Despite the final tally, the Terriers continued to hang their hat on a balanced scoring attack as four different players finished in double figures. Sherman Dean III led the scoring attack with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 2-2 from outside.

Other players in double digits included 11 each from starters Brodgie Gordon and Jalen Kirksey, and 10 from Christian Crespo.

Antonion McQueen finished the game with eight points and a team-high six rebounds, while Tyler McMillion added seven points. Marcel Rice and Oliver Clingain each totaled six, and Sherman Cox added five points of his own.

For the game, the Terriers shot .465 from the field and .471 from beyond the arc while scoring 40 points in each half.

Defensively, Hiram finished the game with seven steals, including two each by Gordon, Kirksey and Crespo.

The Terriers will return home on Wednesday evening, January 23, and play host to Denison University. The matchup is scheduled for 6 p.m.
