Jones Named NCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Jan. 15 – CLEVELAND, Ohio – For the third time in his career, Hiram men's basketball senior Kelvin Jones has been named the North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday afternoon.

Jones helped Hiram stay in second place in the NCAC standings, as the Terriers went 2-0 last week with wins over #17 Ohio Wesleyan, and Kenyon. Hiram defeated the Battling Bishops 88-79 in Delaware, before dispatching of the Lords, 99-77.

The Terrier big man posted his eighth and ninth double-double of the season, scoring 21 points and adding 14 rebounds at OWU, and following that with a 19-point, 10-board night in the win over Kenyon. For the week he averaged 20 points and 12 boards, to go along with 2.5 assists, all while shooting over 72% from the field.

A two-time All-NCAC selection, Jones has continued to be a nightmare for conference opponents. In eight NCAC games this season, Jones is averaging 18.8 points and 9.7 rebounds per night, all while shooting over 70% from the field.

The senior has tallied five of his double-doubles this year against conference opponents, while not scoring below 14 points in any NCAC game this season. Three times he has eclipsed 20 points against the NCAC including 21 against OWU and DePauw, and a season-high 25 in a win over Oberlin.

Jones is currently just .1 rebound per game shy of being the only NCAC player to average a double-double on the season. Additionally, he ranks third in the conference in field-goal percentage and sits tied for eighth in the Nation in double-doubles.

Jones will look to keep his hot streak going as the Terriers travel to Granville, Ohio to take on Denison University on Wednesday evening.
