Hiram Athletics Announces New Campaign for Stadium Project

Hiram Athletics Announces New Campaign for Stadium Project

The Hiram College athletic department, in conjunction with the Office of Development, has announced a new campaign that will contribute to a two-pronged effort for Charles A. Henry Field, home of the Terrier football, men's and women's soccer, and men's and women's lacrosse programs.

The Terriers are looking to former alumni and friends of the college to help in the funding for a project that will bring a new, state-of-the-art, digital scoreboard to the confines of Henry Field. Along with the project, Charles A. Henry field will be renamed to Henry Field at Malmisur Stadium, in honor of the College's all-time winningest coach, the late Joe Malmisur.

Malmisur led Hiram to five seasons with a .500 or better record, including three six-win campaigns in his last five years in the Presidents' Athletic Conference. His top season came in his last with the program, guiding the Terriers to a 6-1 mark in conference play, and earning the school's first-ever conference championship.

Overall, Malmisur still holds the Terrier record for coaching wins and coached 72 players to all-conference honors and six more to All-American status. He was inducted into the Hiram College Hollinger Hall of Fame in 2001.

The rededication of the field's moniker adds to the rich tradition of the stadium. Over the past ten years, the field has undergone significant upgrades, including stadium lights and a synthetic field turf. Another piece of the puzzle will be the replacement of the current scoreboard, which has been in service for over 30 years.

The new scoreboard, which will support all five programs which compete in the stadium, will serve a number of purposes, including: enhancing game-day experiences with video replay/highlights; providing enriched experiences for students and athletes with college events and community functions; supporting recruiting efforts all across the college's athletics landscape; providing revenue-generating opportunities; and offering a unique game-day experience for each sport with a fully customizable interface.

The goal for the project is to have the finances raised by April 1, 2019 to ensure that the board is installed for the beginning of the 2019-2020 academic year. However, Hiram athletics still needs YOUR help. Those wishing to donate can call the Development and Alumni Office at 800-705-5050 or do so online at
